Our Journey - How we started

CACAE began in 2018 by offering local children activities such as drawing, games, and math classes.

By 2019, we were sponsoring four children with full scholarships. In partnership with our local sponsor, a travel agency, we organized encounters between foreign travelers and the children. Visitors would teach a class (music, language, etc.), share a lunch, and then play a chess game during coffee time.

In 2020, despite financial challenges caused by the pandemic, we decided to go public, launch the website, and raise about €4,000. This funding enabled us to continue supporting families with tuition fees and meals. Since our inception, we have served more than 4,000 meals.

Since 2022, as the number of children grew, we relocated all our activities to Barrio do Hospital, where most of the beneficiaries live. This move ensured easier access for the community. Our policy is to have local young adults commit to teaching classes, allowing the very first beneficiaries to now become the teachers!

As of 2024, we offer a full set of extracurricular activities, benefiting more than 70 children and young adults through our programs.

For 2025, our plan is to recover a room in the social center to launch after-school classes, literacy programs for young adults, and open a local library.
